Kia Carens Clavis Long Term Review After 6000 KM – Real Experience, Mileage & Verdict

Introduction

Friends, welcome to today’s new blog. Today, I have brought for all of you a detailed long-term review of the Kia Carens Clavis, which is completely based on real-world experience.

I have been using this car for the past 3.5 months and have driven it for more than 6000 km in different conditions—whether it’s city traffic, highways, or long road trips.

I regularly test cars in real-life conditions and share honest ownership experiences, so everything mentioned in this article will be purely based on my personal experience—no theory or assumptions.

If you are wondering whether the Kia Carens Clavis is the right choice for long-term use or not, then after reading this article, almost all your doubts will be cleared.

Ride Comfort & Real-Life Experience

In a family car, two things matter the most first is space, and second is comfort. And what I’m about to tell you is based on both of these factors.

It was the first week of January, around 3 PM, and I was working on my laptop when I got a call saying, “Deepak, you’re about to become an uncle come to Mumbai quickly.

Right after that, I quickly packed a small bag, got into the Kia Carens Clavis, and left for Mumbai.

After dealing with Pune’s bad roads, cracks on the expressway, and Mumbai’s peak-hour traffic, I finally reached the hospital.

And after a while, I realized something surprising — I wasn’t feeling tired at all. There was no fatigue, no back pain, and no shoulder discomfort.

And all of this was because of the comfort and ride quality of the Kia Carens Clavis.

On rough roads, Kia Carens Clavis managed to limit body movements really well. Even though it’s a big car and a manual, it was still easy to control in Mumbai traffic, thanks to its steering and punchy engine.

Space & 7-Seater Family Comfort

In those few days, I drove this car extensively in Mumbai — from hospital to home, home to hospital, and going out for dinners.

But I wasn’t alone in any of these trips; my parents, relatives, and cousins were always with me.

Including me, there were a total of 7 people in the Kia Carens Clavis, and I traveled a lot around Mumbai with all of them.

None of them felt any lack of space in the car. Everyone was sitting comfortably without any issues.

The legroom in the Kia Carens Clavis is quite good, the under-thigh support is excellent, and there’s no shortage of headroom either.

Even with 7 adults, everyone could fit comfortably inside the car. If your priority is good space and comfort for your family, then this car takes care of both very easily.

Along with that, the car also offers plenty of space to keep luggage, making it even more practical for family use.

Long Distance Highway Performance

After this experience, around two weeks later, I and three of my friends drove from Pune to Chandrapur covering almost 900 km to attend a friend’s wedding.

We had other cars available in the office and even our personal cars, but still, we chose the Kia Carens Clavis because of its space, comfort, and most importantly, its diesel fuel efficiency.

Even after driving through Pune’s bad roads, heavy traffic, and Maharashtra’s broken and under construction highways, we still managed to get around 12–13 kmpl fuel efficiency from this car.

The ride quality remained comfortable on rough roads, and we didn’t have to worry much about fuel expenses either.

Real Mileage & Fuel Cost Breakdown

After crossing those rough patches, we entered the Samruddhi Mahamarg, where we drove the car for around 500 km at a constant speed of 120 km/h (which is the speed limit there).

Even at that speed, Kia Carens Clavis delivered around 18 kmpl fuel efficiency.

After two days, we completed the same 900 km journey back. In total, the car was driven around 1800 km — including highways, expressways, and usage during wedding activities.

Even after all that, our total diesel expense was around ₹9000, and we still had about 200 km of range left.

Engine Performance & Driving Experience

For its size, Kia Carens Clavis offers really impressive fuel efficiency. Even when fully loaded, it doesn’t feel underpowered at all.

The diesel engine provides enough power to handle any kind of road, and neither I nor my friends ever felt that the car lacked performance.

The low RPM drivability is also very good the car can easily move in second gear at around 7 km/h, which means you don’t have to change gears frequently in traffic.

However, the clutch is slightly hard, which is common in diesel cars.

Overtaking was never an issue at any point. This is a well-rounded engine that delivers both good fuel efficiency and strong performance, so you never feel underpowered while driving.

I also drove Kia Carens Clavis at night on the expressway, and the headlight quality is quite good — at no point did I feel like visibility was an issue.

Diesel vs Turbo Petrol Comparison

But I do have one complaint with the Kia Carens Clavis, and that issue came up when the diesel manual version was replaced with the turbo petrol DCT.

I don’t have any problem with this engine—it is refined, powerful, and we’ve already seen it in cars like the Hyundai Verna, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Creta.

It offers a truly sporty and exciting driving experience. But the thing is, the Kia Carens Clavis is not built for that kind of experience.

It’s an MPV a people mover. Its main purpose is to take passengers from point A to point B comfortably, and for that purpose, this engine feels a bit too much.

If your goal is to move people comfortably without feeling underpowered, the diesel engine can easily do that job, and to some extent, even a standard petrol engine can handle it well.

Yes, this turbo petrol engine gives you a lot of power and excitement, but it also brings a significant drop in fuel efficiency.

When I used to drive the diesel manual variant from Mumbai to Pune, I used to get around 12–13 kmpl in the city while reaching the expressway, and about 18–19 kmpl on the expressway.

But when I drove the turbo petrol DCT variant on the same routes under similar conditions, I got only around 6–7 kmpl in the city and about 13 kmpl on the expressway which is a big drop.

The turbo petrol engine is great for those who want effortless performance and a bit of excitement even in their family car.

But such buyers should also understand that they will have to pay more for this performance in terms of fuel costs.

Variant Confusion & Buying Decision

Now, the con I’m about to tell you may not matter much in terms of long-term usage, but it can be very helpful when making a buying decision.

In the Kia Carens Clavis, the top variant is available only with the turbo petrol engine—you don’t get a diesel option there.

Not just that, the diesel engine is available only in the one-below-top variant, and that too only with a manual transmission, not automatic.

So if you want a combination of good fuel efficiency (diesel), driving convenience (automatic), and all the premium features of the top variant, then unfortunately, that combination is not available here.

However, this isn’t a major problem. Even if you go for the one-below-top diesel variant, you still get plenty of features like a single-pane sunroof, dual large screens, wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, air purifier, a 360-degree camera, and even a dual-camera dashcam.

Basically, you get almost all the essential features needed for a comfortable driving experience.

But if you specifically want the diesel engine along with the absolute top-spec features, then you’ll have to compromise on some of those premium features.

Small Cons That Could Be Better

Apart from all this, there are no major cons left in the Kia Carens Clavis. Whether it’s space, comfort, performance, or features this car performs well in almost every area.

However, there are a few small things that might irritate you during your drive. These are the things that personally bothered me, and I’d like to mention them.

Even after costing above ₹20 lakh, this car still comes with Kia’s older interface, and both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are wired.

If you’ve ever used wired connectivity, you would know that even a small jerk can instantly disconnect it, which can be annoying.

Also, the second row space could have been slightly better. And lastly, Kia does offer an air purifier in this car, but its placement could have been improved for better usability.

Verdict

So friends, if I put my final verdict in simple words, the Kia Carens Clavis is a proper family focused car that performs really well in terms of comfort, space, and practicality.

In my 6000 km experience, this car never gave me any major disappointment whether it was long highway drives, heavy traffic, or traveling with a full family load.

Yes, there are some compromises, such as the fuel efficiency of the turbo petrol variant and a few feature limitations, but overall, this car fulfills its main purpose being a comfortable people mover very well.

If your priority is a car that can provide stress free and comfortable travel for your family, with ample space and good practicality for daily use, then the Kia Carens Clavis can definitely be a strong option for you.

However, if your focus is purely on performance or a premium feel, then you should consider other options as well.

Based on my personal experience, I would say that this car is best suited for people who are looking for a balanced, practical, and family oriented vehicle.
